I have the same question.

If you ask this question about diamond or gold, it is very easy to answer because the chemical composition and structure of diamond and gold are well known. No matter where you go or who you ask, diamond and gold will never become something else.
How about jade? Other than the color and texture, does anyone know anything definitively that can be use as a scientific test to quantify the quality of jade, like the 4 C's for diamond? If no one knows what jade is, then anyone can claim anything be jade. If that is not scary to you, it is scary enough to stop me from buying jade.
