Although the main topic is cheap fast fashion, which is not on the shopping list of most of us on this board, there are some interesting points and statistics there-
in 1980s, 85% of garments were made domestically, now, only 3-5%.
in 1950s, people spent 10% of their income on clothing, now, only 3%.
Average consumers spent $1100/year on clothing, and buy 64 pieces a year.
There is also something I echo with in this show, that is the elimination of the middle market along with the rise of cheap fashion. Brands such as Ann Taylor, BR and Anthropology have reached the lowest quality point in history in recent few years. The reduction in design and quality has turned me away. I have saved some clothes from AT and BR from five or ten years ago and you can see the obvious difference in quality. Although I buy mostly contemporary fashion now, I think it might be a good idea to learn to alter those old pieces to bring them up-to-date.
What do you gals think about fashion vs quality vs price?
