克利夫兰华人在自家门前被警察枪击致死
数十专业人士上书要求查明真相
十一月三十日，克利夫兰有一位姓陈的华人，在苏伦市的自家门前车道的车中，被警察击中两枪，在送医不久后毙命。
主流媒体报道说，是有妇女检控他强奸，一名警察上门调查，与该陈姓男子发生枪战的结果。几天后市长发表讲话，肯定警察是正当防卫，表扬其英勇果断。事件发生后华人社会一片沉默。
近日有数十位华人专业人士联名致信相关媒体，要求公正客观地报道事实真相，并指出几点疑问：
一、该报道中所述事实情节，来自警察本人单方面的叙述，并无佐证，文中对此却没有交待，让人看了以为是调查结论。
二、检控陈姓男子强奸的，实际上是他的正在闹离婚的妻子，报道中却只提到是他认识的“一位妇女”。
三、人命大事，应进行公正、公开的调查，最后得出结论。现在该市长却已经说是正当防卫，是否符合正常的法律程序？

十一月三十日，枪击案发生。
十二月四日，陈先生去世。
十二月五日，警察被允许从今天起恢复上班。
十二月六日，调查还在进行，市长McGill公开宣布他的个人判断，肯定警察是正当防卫。
十二月十一日上午，华人联名致信警察局，要求独立和公正的调查。
十二月十一日下午，Solon警察局宣布调查结束，肯定警察是正当防卫（shooting justified）。

A Glenallen Avenue man, shot in the face outside his home Nov. 29 by Aurora police, was still in critical condition Tuesday in MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Jian Wei Chen, 51, had been wanted for allegedly raping a woman in Aurora. He was shot by Aurora Police Chief Seth Riewaldt after reportedly pointing a weapon at the chief.
Riewaldt was placed on routine administrative leave immediately after the shooting. He was scheduled to return to duty Wednesday (Dec. 5).
"He's a very brave man," said Aurora Mayor Lynn McGill. "He did what he was supposed to do."
Meanwhile, the Solon Police Department is continuing its investigation of the incident. City and Cuyahoga County prosecutors may bring charges against Chen.
Solon police Lt. Chris Viland said based on evidence collected so far, two shots were fired outside Chen's home. One came from Chen's weapon, the other from Riewaldt's service revolver. Police hope to determine which man fired first.
Viland said a bullet, most likely from Chen's weapon, was found in the door frame of his vehicle.
According to Solon police and McGill, on the morning of Nov. 28, Chen allegedly raped a woman he knew in an Aurora home.
That evening, Aurora and Solon police went to Chen's home with a felony arrest warrant. Officers knocked on Chen's door, but no one answered.
On the morning of Nov. 29, Aurora police called Solon police and said they were going to execute a search warrant at Chen's house.
At 10:31 a.m., Solon police heard that shots had been fired outside the Glenallen home.
Solon police later learned that Riewaldt, while waiting for other Aurora officers to obtain the search warrant, had been parked outside of Chen's home for about an hour.
"The police chief is in a proactive position out here," McGill said. "We have 26 patrolmen. He needed to cover this for manpower reasons. It's not unusual."
Riewaldt was in plain clothes wearing a bullet-proof vest and in an unmarked car, although the car did have overhead police lights.
Riewaldt saw Chen emerge from the home, enter a vehicle and start driving away. The chief activated his overhead lights, pulled into Chen's driveway and blocked his vehicle.
Riewaldt identified himself. He stepped out of his car and walked toward the driver's side door of Chen's vehicle. Chen remained seated.
Riewaldt ordered Chen to show his hands. Chen reached into his jacket and pulled out a revolver. Riewaldt grabbed the revolver and tried to point it away from him.
According to McGill, at least one shot was fired from Chen's weapon. During a struggle, Riewaldt shot Chen with his service revolver.
"It was obvious the suspect was trying to cause harm to the chief," McGill said. "It happened in a flash."
Riewaldt, who wasn't shot but was bruised, called in the shooting and at least one neighbor called 911.
Police and Solon paramedics responded. Chen was taken to Solon Medical Campus on Aurora Road, then by emergency helicopter to MetroHealth.
Solon police found a handgun, apparently belonging to Chen, on the scene.
Two of Chen's neighbors, preferring anonymity, said Chen had moved back into the Glenallen home about two months ago after leaving Solon years ago.
Previously, Chen and his family lived in the home for about two years. Then he rented it out for about 18 months, the neighbors said.
