先说说让自己高兴的事：大儿子今年秋天就要读大学了！！！！ 
儿子申请了藤校没有如愿。 现在是在两个学校之间摇摆不定：这两所学校2014年的 
排名都在10-20之间，一个排名略高于一些小藤校，另一个排名跟在小藤校之后。计 
划读的专业是非理工科。从现有的纪录来看，这两所学校老大想学的专业近几年大 
学毕业生的毕业就职率都还不错。

 

孩子有现在这样的结果，与妻子多年的来对他的督促和教导是分不开的。妻子自己 
读书时学业就一直很优秀，3年读完了本科后又直接读研。  我们有了孩子后，妻子 
对孩子们的要求一直很严格。记得在孩子们还小的时候，我与妻子在如何要求孩子 
这一问题上多次发生过冲突。但这些年下来事实证明我是错的。 在孩子和妻子的共 
同努力之下，初中期间老大在自己的学习上和校外的一些数学，科学和知识竞赛中 
都取得过很好的成绩。 在音乐上老大从师某原国内著名小提琴家近10年，连续6年 
考入全州的初高学生弦乐队。 在体育方面，老大通过自己的努力也年年进入到学校 
网球队。看到妻子的多年的辛勤得到了初步的回报，在这我衷心的对妻子道一声谢： 
孩子他妈，你辛苦了。
 
老陕现所在的公司目前每年按PSAT的成绩通过 “National Merit Scholarship Corporation” 
予以公司6名子弟奖学金( 具体为4年每年$2000)， 老大有幸的拿到了这项奖学金.  
另外他也可能拿到妻子所在公司设置的奖学金 (4年每年$2500)。 

 

顺便说一下录取老大的学校也包括UC Berkeley 。比较后孩子和我们觉得现在在选 
的学校和专业都更适合他，加上他自己也想留在东岸，我们也就随他了。 只是这样 
一来妻子和我原希望以后搬去加州的可能性 就小了许多。  

 

再说说那几分忧： 
因为已经申请到的钱很有限，大儿子4年的教育支出都要压在我们肩膀上了。对我们 
来说，这是一个很大的数字和负担。它不知可以让我爬多少坐‘山’，置多少门炮 
啊！另外3年后我们的小儿子也要读大学了， 那时负担就更重了。 唉，孩子真是妻 
子和我的前世冤家 

 

一些感受： 
__记得以前一次因为对孩子的教育事发生冲突时妻子对我说过一段话(大意是)： 每 
个人的人生幸福都是一个常数。对于孩子来说，他们不应该在为自己打人生基础的 
这一阶段提前支取自己的幸福。

 __在孩子升学这一问题上我们的目标很明确：即尽我们的努力协助孩子上孩子能够
争取到的最好的学校和最适合的专业。 这样孩子以后在迈出生活的第一步时可能会容易些。 

 

__不要让孩子在业余爱好上花太多时间。对于像我们这样没有背景家庭的孩子们来 
说：要想进好学校，高中GPA最重要，其它都是浮云。 “学好数理化，走边天下都 
不怕”。这是放之四海而皆准的真理。 

 

__作为一个亚裔的孩子，在美国要想进入与自己高中学业成绩相当的学校--难！而 
对‘不幸’生亚裔家庭的任一个男孩子则更是难上加难。网上对美国华裔家庭的男 
孩申请大学有一个专用代词叫“小中男”。经过孩子的这次申请经历，我觉得应该 
改为“小中难(男)”。 美国的现行大学招生制度对亚裔孩子实在是太不公平了。
