007  Not Marble, Nor the Gilded Monuments（LV）

 
Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme; 
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmear'd with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,                  
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword, nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death, and all oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room        
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
  So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
  You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.
 
 
007  冷看大理石，睥睨镀金碑（第五十五首）
 
冷看大理石，睥睨镀金碑，
王族墓铭锈，难与铿锵诗韵比寿。①
君有内美载文笔，日益增辉，
顽石涂油漆，终将毁于春秋。②
当战乱耗资推翻贵胄雕塑，③
当权争内讧摧毁红墙玉阶，
无论战神利剑兵燹烈火
无法焚劫青史芳名册。
颉颃死神，抗衡忘恩薄情人，④  
君将生气焕发，丰富讃美诗史，
在后代眼睛里闪烁神韵，
直到人世磨损趋近末日。
   如是，终审之前君将再次高耸，
   活在诗碑里，常住仰慕眼神中。

① 第1、2行直译是：没有云石、王公镶金的墓碑，将能比这有力的诗活得更长久。在英国的教堂墓园，王族的墓碑往往用金叶装饰。
② 原文「unswept」一词，此处意为「没有清洗的」或「没有磨光的」。「Sluttish」一词意为「粗野的」、「骯脏的」或「泥泞的」。
③ 原文「broils」一词本义为争吵，此处意为战争或暴乱。
④ 原文词组「all oblivious enmity」可以作多种解读，或认为可以解读为导致世人忘记诗美的战争或事变，或认为「oblivious」一词可以解读为「令人遗忘的坟墓」（the grave of oblivion）， 「enmity」一词可以解读为「对你的轻蔑」（contempt for you）。
