but if I were you, I would do what your wife said.
1. file credit report:
What is their SSN? none
2. Small court claim
you need to pay fee first. they wouldn't hire lawyer. they will mailed to your your check before the court take any action. then the court dissmiss your case. Since they correct it. You need to give their a chance to correct their problems. court cost about $20. Service fee about $50.
