This is how I approach.

1. If you have nothing to hide, try to be as helpful as possible. It make their job easy and make your life easier. Most COPs in Vegas are this way. A "Thank You Sir" from a COP means a lot to me.

2. If you have something to hide, you dont want to open the door. You need open the phone book and looking for attorney and have him/her to your door ASAP.

Dont make stupid move in front of the COP with a guy. He will shot you and then ask question. I have seen some very very graphic police training materials. You can not imagine what a man with a hunting knife can do to a COP.
