Do I have to present in the divorce court ?

First, thanks for all the advices on this forum, Expecially old cat!

I have a question to ask. If for some reason I don't want to present in the divorce court and just have my attorney shows up. Is it ok? My attorney said I have to show up. Why? I see only attorneys show up in a lot hearings in movies, etc.

I doubt if this attoney I am going to hire is knowledgable or not.
