Help: Gas Leak

My family moved in an apartment about 70 days ago. Although we felt the smell in the apartment was not very good from day one, we didn't take it seriously because the floor and walls were newly painted, and we thought it was a mixture of the paint smell. Today a neighbor came to our apartment and said the smell might be gas leak. We called the gas company, and their technician came to our apartment and confirmed it was gas leak. He shutdown the gas pipe and put a violation ticket for the property owner. We called the maintenance office of the owner and they fixed the leak. We are alarmed by the potential health problems and will go for physical examinations. In case there are health problems as a result of the gas leak in the last 70 days, what legal options do we have? The gas pipe is behind the stove and nobody could touch it. This is definitely not our fault. Any suggestions are appreciated.
