My experience

Pick you own repair shop, and pick a good one (such as a bodyshop or collison center run by a new car dealership). The insurance adjuster will have an estimate, but it's not final. The repair shop will also provide an estimate, and the two of the THEM will decide how much the repair cost will be. In my case, the estimate from the insurance adjuster was only $2000, but the repair shop's initail esttimate was at least $3000, and ended up with $4000.

The important thing for you is to ask the repair shop what type of parts (new or re-manufactured or used) will be used. If you car is new, then they must use new parts. The goal is to restore your car to pre-accident condition.

If after the repair you are unhappy with the result, I believe the repair shop is responsible, not the insurance company.
