surgery room is not same as surgeon's office

Yes. I am pretty sure. When I was in the Hospital, the gauze sponge used by the nurse was in small package, wrapped by some kind of paper with "Sterile" marked on the wrapping. The nurse specifically told me that the gauze sponge was sterile, it did not leave foreign matters in your wound (like small fibers) to cause problem, and medical gloves were required to wear when changing. Once discharged from the hospital, I was asked to visit the surgeon's office, where there is no surgery room like the hospital. He pulled off the bandage and conducted examination. The gauze sponge in his office was pulled out from a big package (nearly square section with nearly 6 or 8 inches long), wrapped by a kind of paper, which had marker as "Non-Sterile". At home, when I saw the "Non-Sterile" note made by my wife, I did not believe it at first.  When I tried ordering these kind of stuff at Ebay.com or Amazon.com, it was clearly shown that large package, non-sterile gauze sponger is much cheaper than small package, sterile gauze sponge.
