The defendant have to be at the court on pre-trial day

However, for negotiation the DA usually does not meet the defendant.  Only the attorney does the face to face negotiation.  Of course, the defendant needs to communicate with the attorney.

 

The victim does not have to go on that day, however, sometimes the victim can help the defendant by talking to someone like social worker about the victim's opinions and the social worker can talk to the DA directly about it which could help getting a better deal.
