9:17 (Dow Jones) Piper Jaffray upgrades JDS Uniphase (JDSU) to overweight from neutral, as the optical industry "has shifted from a cyclical industry to a secular growth market," firm says. "We believe the ongoing growth of bandwidth intensive applications will be a favorable tailwind for the optical sector," Piper says. "Video traffic, smart phones, netbooks, tablets, Internet adoption in BRIC and similarly emerging countries and other bandwidth intensive applications will continue to stress networks and require carriers and enterprise customers to invest in optical technologies," firm adds. JDSU up 5% at $14.09. (john.shipman@dowjones.com)
