Thanks guys, i am not an expert in this area, but really like to know something about it. :)

From wiki it seems SMP does not support too much CPU, since it shares single memory and uses single OS, will the overhead of schedudling and sharing memory in the same OS be too large? I know that Win2008 R2 supports 256 CPUs maximum.I am not sure about how much linux CPU can handle. But normal linux should be at the similar level.

So how much CPUs a normal super computer hosts, from the impression it would be thousands...? Are they useing SMP? Is there a single OS managing all these CPUs and memory? What OS a normal super computer uses? Will single OS and single memory sharing be the bottleneck of the system? I would apprecite if anyone can post some links about super computer HW architecture and OS informtion.
