Pine contains a tar that creates creosote (its the substance that forms along the flue of your chimney. The creosote main chemical structure is like Lysol, a benzene ring. Benzene is known to have caused cancer in rats. However pine NUTS, I have not heard anything bad. What kind of pine tree that you used? Different species might not have higher concentrations of these tar.
