Install Antenna Extension
Most residential garage door openers have an antenna that hangs down from the operator casing. It is usually going to be colored purple, green, red, gray or black. Your antenna should be hanging down from the operator casing directly underneath the opener so that it has a clear path of communication with a remote control. Although this 10″ antenna should be long enough to receive a signal it can be easily improved on.
Connect bell wire to the end of your existing antenna making sure you get a metal on metal connection where they link up. Run the bell wire antenna extension through the holes in the perforated metal angle iron. The extra metal and bell wire should immediately boost the range of the signal on your opener. If you wish to go even further you can drill a tiny hold through your building and run the bell wire to the exterior or your garage or pole barn.
Chamberlain Liftmaster makes an antenna extension kits that are best used on metal buildings like pole barns. The metal siding seems to cause a great deal of interference. These antenna systems are designed so your antenna can be mounted on the exterior of your building. Always attempt to locate the source of interference first before spending your time and money on this kit. In past experiences this kit can extend range by 25ft to as much as 100ft.
