First, Amsoil is considered as best engine oil. Second, engines varies a lot and manufacturers know best of their engines. I have read the information you cited and the similar years ago. But you don't know the variation. I believe the variation is going to be huge and manufactures are not going to take the risk of recommending an oil change schedule that results in even 1% engine failure. Yes, the schedule by manufacture is going to be very conservative. Does that mean you want to take that less than 1% risk?  Suppose the average oil change interval for engine failure is 18 months. Some will go 24 months or even 30 months without damage. But probably 5% one sided lower limit is 14 months and 1% one sided lower limit is 12 months. Say the particular manufacture thinks 1% failure rate is a tolerable risk and recommends 12 months. Yes, you still have room and you can stretch the oil change interval but question is how much risk you want to take. I personally wouldn't do an oil change longer than 12 months. I consider a regular oil change a cheap insurance. So just follow manufacture's schedule.
