我朋友这车 - ford, explorer, 2002， 不但变速器坏了，

front drive shaft also missing. 变速器油是满的，所以是机器问题。修车工说他可以rebuild, for $2200. 
我问了修车工他要不要买，他说如果他买，$500。
大家看这是不是倒霉定了？没有其他办法了？
