Watch out for the Engine Oil Type for Honda when changing Oil

Honda Engine sometimes is quite picky on Engine Oil type. For example, 2003-2006 CRV or Accord specify 5W20, but some lube shops use 5W30 as it is much easier to find and cheaper. However, 5W30 is thicker and provide less lube than the 5W20.

Last Sat I changed CRV oil at one of the local tire store and felt that the engine was noisier than before. So I checked the receipt and fould that they used 5W30. Took it back and they changed to 5W20 for free and now the noise level is back to normal.

Lots of posts online are saying that there should be no diff, but you know what, there is a reason it asks for 5W20 as it is as thin as water and it can flow to tiny parts to provide full lube. Next time you change engine oil, do remember to ask the manager to use the same type oil your Honda car specify on the engine oil cap! Good luck
