slip&fall injuries

my tenant's lawyer called me today, want me to pay the tenant $50,000, and he said the tenant slip&fall inside the unit over the living room. what should I do? I am an old man without any money to pay them. did this kind of thing happen all the time? how would you guys handle things like this? thanks for your help!
