Q: what is the required drywall thickness for basement bedroom?

1/2 inch or 5/8 inch for fire and building code.

I have to redo a basement's family room and bedroom, in a 10 years old house with concrete basement walls.

i think previous drywall in basement is 1/2 and remove all the lower 4 feet. since the basement have outside all concrete walls, is there requirement for 1/2 or 5/8 inch drywall per building and fire codes?
