Buy a can of R134a

in any parts store, and buy those can come with a pressure gauge, (cost $4-5 extra), then use that to check the pressure at low pressure side. The pressure gauge has a quick disconnect fitting that can be plugged into the port at low pressure side. The you will know what pressure in the line.
