Gold reaching $1000? The question is when, not if. Besides the huge psychological impact of gold reaching 4 digits and the political resistance you mentioned, another factor is how fast gold has appreciated in such a short time frame (~50% in barely over 6 months). So it would not be too surprising that it might take a deep breath before cutting though the barrier. Of course, it is equally possible that it will fly by $1000 today or tomorrow. Thus, for long term investors, $1000 is just another stage along gold's uptrend. Either a major correction at the corner or conquering $1000 any time now, gold will go much higher, again, LONG TERM (2-3 years)!
