The Southern California area has the following Weather Advisory in effect for today, Wednesday 12/17/08:
A STRONG PACIFIC LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL SWEEP ACROSS THE AREA TODAY, BRINGING PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL AND A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. THESE CONDITIONS COULD PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING WITH MUD AND DEBRIS FLOWS IN THE BURN AREAS, ON STEEP TERRAIN AND IN THE FOOTHILLS OF THE MOUNTAINS BELOW THE SNOW LEVEL.
When planning your day and driving, please be alert for abnormal conditions, and remember:
Reduce your vehicle speed on wet roads – hydroplaning can result in loss of control of your vehicle
Watch for standing water in the roadway – it may be deeper than it appears
Do not drive or walk across rapidly flowing water or rain-swollen creeks or streams
Keep your headlights on when using your windshield wipers (California Law)
Allow plenty of room between you and the vehicle ahead.
Dress in appropriate clothing for weather conditions – being cold and wet decreases your job safety
Make sure you have proper communications – do not work in remote areas without having cell or radio contact
