A corner shop did mine with a plugin once, never really stopped

The plugin only made the leaking slower. I had to pump the tire ever so often.

At the end, I had to bring it to a tire company to do the real patch. That fixed the issue.

Maybe you were using a better quality plug string; my experience told me not to spend time there, didn't worth it.
