Inquiry Sunmart cheating at pump
State agency says more than half of company's stations in Texas caught overcharging.
Sunmart gas stations across the state have been systematically overcharging customers by giving them less fuel than they paid for, the state Department of Agriculture reported Tuesday.
The department found that 47 of the 86 Sunmart stations in Texas cheated customers during a three-days investigation, dubbed "Operation Spotlight," that ended Sunday, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Stapled said.
More than 990 individual Sunmart gas pumps have been shut down and Petrleum Wholesale LP, the company that operates the pumps under the Sunmart name, couldl be fined more than $100,000, he said.
