the writer shows limited knowledge both on semicon and car industry, how can he know trand of the industry? Yet for Prius, I don't like the body and it does save gas. I spend $3000 each year for gas so Prius may save me half of the money - if does mean I'll buy it because I have enough cars. There are battery cars also, yet pure electric car is not cheap due to battery cost and weight. Li-ion battery life is about 600 cycles, currently may not be better then Ni-Mh that has ~4000 cycles. Suppose you drive 15000 miles, gas $5/g, car 25mpg, each year is $3000. Prius is 48mpg so cost is $1562 or half. Suppose a pure electric car able for 70m/WH, you use Li-ion 18650,3.6V,2.6AH,600cycles,$4 battery, 3.6*2.6*600/70/4=20mile/$, or $5 for <100 miles. Charge costs $0.67(0.12/KWH).
