US government and Ben are super smart.

With US budget defecit and huge debt, lower interest rate to inflate all the paper money serves their best interests, and a sure way to rob other countries who hold US bebt like China, and ordinary people who have savings like us.

They will do so long as they still can. Goldman saches is the arm of US government, holding huge short term debt position mature in 2008. How can GS refinance those debt? that is the time, they have to raise interest rate, and abandon inflation pilicy, not because they want to, but because they have to, noboby will lend them money by then.
