when you get to Mono Lake, if you have 3-4 hours to spare, you can go to the town of Bodie ...

the last 3 miles to Bodie is unpaved and rough. it should be OK if drive SUV and truck. if you drive sedan, be sure to drive slowly and watch out for the tires.
