以下是我从休斯顿的领养中心收到的

Happy Friday! Weird huh? We decided to move the BARC Starz e-mail to Friday in hopes that you will see the pet of your dreams and rush down to BARC on Saturday to adopt him or her. Here's hoping!

BARC Starz -
1.) Bonnie ID#A870623 - Bonnie was turned in by her owner. She was lucky enough to be already spayed and sweet tempered so she was placed in the adoption program. For a dog that has lived it's life in a house with a family, BARC can be a pretty traumatic experience. Everything that is comfortable has been taken away. Simple pleasures like being let out to go potty don't exist anymore. One could say that Bonnie lost everything except her life the day she was turned in by her former owner. Yet, Bonnie has managed to maintain a great attitude. She gets along with other dogs including some of the unmannered youngsters. She walks well on a leash, is low energy, and is just a really laid back dog. I try to get her outside for 15 minutes every day. One day when she was out in the pen, she found the squeaky toy that she is pictured with. She had it in her mouth when I went to get her. I thought to myself, 'here's this dog that has lost everything and now she's found something to call her own.' So I let her bring the toy in. She loves her squeaky toy. She sleeps with it on her kuranda bed. It's almost like her security blanket. She can't control a lot of what's going on around her, but at least she has her squeaky toy. The only thing that would be better than a squeaky toy is a person to call her own. If you want more information on Bonnie e-mail Margaret at elmo_boozehound@yahoo.com.

2.) Smokey ID#A865873 - Poor Smokey has had a rough start to her young life. This little girl came to BARC as a puppy of barely 5 months old and quickly became a favorite among the volunteers. Then she got sick with the famous BARC Upper Respiratory Infection and did some time in the hospital ward before one of the volunteers took her home to recuperate. She was adopted out and everyone assumed it was a happy ending. But suddenly Smokey's back at BARC. No one knows why she was returned, but now she's got demodectic mange and she sure could use a hero. Demodectic mange is not contagious and Dr. Costas is already treating her, but the stress of being returned to BARC is not helping the recovery. Smokey is a small shepherd mix with amazing blue eyes and a sweet, gentle disposition. She's otherwise healthy, spayed, microchipped, and currently residing in the B Ward, Kennel 29. If you want to come see Smokey and help her have the happy ever after she deserves e-mail Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com.

3.) Polly - Polly is a gorgeous polydactyl tuxedo cat. (that means she has an extra 'thumb' on her front paws!!) She is a dainty girl that is gentle and loves to be petted. She is quiet and gentle. Please come and adopt this sweet girl. Polly has had her shots, spayed, microchipped, FIV/FeLUK negative, and is litter box trained. She is in the adult cat room in the North Kennel. For more information, please contact Linda at linda.eggert@c-a-m.com or Nela at ntbrown@comcast.net.

4.) Mariah ID#A858908 - Mariah also thought she had found the perfect home but is now back at BARC. She was adopted by a nice couple that has since broken up. Long story short one can't have her but loves her dearly and the other dropped her off at a PetSmart. : (
Mariah is a 9-month-old Fox Terrier mix and only weighs about 30lbs. She is a very sweet dog with lots of energy. She needs someone who will challenge her mind so that she doesn't find other ways to spend her time. She is great with other dogs and really does best if she has a play buddy. She knows a few basic commands but needs further training. Mariah is a very smart dog, who loves attention, picks up fast on training, and plays well with others. She is housebroken, spayed, has had 2 rounds of shots and is ready for that forever home. If you think Mariah is the dog for you e-mail Tammie at dogs_n_need@*****cglobal.net.

Foster Highlights -
1.) Sassy ID#A871792 - Sassy is a 1-year-old Catahoula mix. Sassy came into BARC with a litter of adorable pups. Sassy has been such a good mom and deserves a good home of her own! Sassy has not been spayed yet and will need a couple of weeks to "dry up." then she can be spayed and adopted officially. If you are interested in adopting Sassy you will first need to foster her and take her in to be spayed. Sassy is smart, loving, and just an all around good girl. I believe she is housebroken since she tells me when it's time to go out. This beautiful momma will smile at you when you walk into a room, she will talk to you in a low voice (I call it her indoor voice), she sits, gives five, and doesn't deserve all that has happened to her and her pups. Sassy has acted aggressively to other dogs, but it might be a maternal protection. We will not know how she is with other dogs until she has weaned her pups and can be taken out without them. If you would be interested in meeting Sassy e-mail Tammie at dogs_n_need@*****cglobal.net.

2.) Candy - Candy is a 4 year old black Cocker Spaniel/Poodle Mix. Candy had a litter of puppies at BARC around Labor Day. She has been a great momma and her puppies are all adorable! She enjoys belly rubs and really enjoys being rubbed behind her right ear. She barks at other dogs as a protective mother, but aside from that she is totally laid back. She is crate trained and housebroken. She is mostly blind, but since she cannot see well with her eyes, she sees with her heart! J Candy is also heartworm positive. Candy has had a rough start to life and deserves a special home that will love her unconditionally! If you think Candy is the dog for you please e-mail her foster mom at mbryan7390@*****cglobal.net.

Special Announcements -
1.) If you are currently fostering and would like help placing your foster cat or dog you can e-mail volunteer Ramona to have them posted on the www.barcfosters.org web site. Send as much information as possible when you e-mail Ramona including the animal's name, ID#, breed, sex, vaccination and surgery status and temperament. You can choose to receive the e-mails directly or have Ramona pre-screen for you!

2.) We have 3 momma dogs with pups that need out of BARC ASAP! The one in the North kennel is VERY depressed and will not be able to care for her babies if she doesn't come around soon! : ( The brown momma in south is a very happy momma that just wants to play! The min pin mix momma has had a few of her puppies placed in foster to adopt homes and she is sad to see them go and cuddles with the remaining pups to keep them safe. If you have a spare bedroom or bathroom that you could house a litter of puppies in please let us know.

3.) Volunteer Orientation is tomorrow at BARC at 10:00am! If you have ever thought about volunteering but don't know where to get started then come out tomorrow and we will explain everything from dog walking, to fostering to grooming!

The adoption fee for BARC is $55 and that includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and city license!
