Application is a very intense process. If the applicant does not have his heart in it, the probability of a good application package is low. I know this because I pushed our DD to apply Harvard which she does not like at all. She did finish the applicant and went to the interview. But she did the very minimal in preparing the application. Of course she did not get in.
