Even if this plan works out in the end, your student must not do it for getting in to college. He shall do it because he enjoys learning, enjoys challenges, enjoys questioning, and most important of all, he has input in this plan, and he understands the cost of this plan.
Go for it, but not to impress, but for the journey itself.
