小孩要放弃英国国籍才能申请中国护照

本人永居, 小孩刚出生, 据说要为小孩向内政部要一封放弃英国国籍的信, 才能向伦顿中国使馆申请中国护照. 在网上查了一下, 要查不多400磅, 是真的吗? 请办过的朋友分享一下经验. 感谢.
