Probably the easiest method you could use is to place dense carpeting over a dense carpet pad in the room. There are some specialized acoustical products that could go under the pad to improve sound resistance further but they're expensive. However, if you will be placing drywall on the ceiling of the lower room, there's a relatively new product that might help a lot--it's a type of sound-deadening drywall.
