Safer way - with a rope saw at the bottom while pulling the

tree toward the way you want the tree to fall.  Challenge is hoke up two ropes as high as possible on the tree.  Cut a notch on the side you want the tree to fall, pull the ropes while sawing with the rope saw with long ropes by two people to stay away from the tree when it's almost falling.  This is in your case of a large open area, and the tree no too tall.
