There is no such thing called trend on countertop color.

The countertop color needs to be coordinated or contrasted with cabinet, backsplash and floor colors.  If you can show a picture, then I can tell you whether it is right or need to be changed.  My credential is that I was a GC for a home total renovation project, and my home kitchen and my picture was on one of Sunday edition's home section of Chicago Tribune newpaper.
