last time when we went to Lake Tahoe and encountered a late Spring blizzard.

There was roadblock set up at the entrance road to check cars tires. The trooper looked at ours (a rental) and let us thru. The rental had all-weather tires.

I am sure in places like Toronto, having snow tires would be a safer approach.
