I dont know about you but for me a trip of length more than 2 weeks is too exhausting and I prefer 1-week trips and take a break staying at "home" each time.

you could split into 2 6-month periods living in 2 cities of choice, like Paris and Rome. Check the following website that offers serviced apartments in Italy and France:
