Although he was born in Germany, but he'd spent the most of his life in France, which reflected in the music he wrote. He'd lived in a very different time period in the history of Europe.
Music wise, i don't see as much "math" in his music as in Bach's, for sure haha.
Anyway, if you grab people on the street, and play Offenbach's "Can Can", they would tell you that they know the music, but probably don't know who wrote it.
