Percentage of non-religious americans on rise (ZT)

By William Spain

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) - The number of Americans who describe themselves as atheist, agnostic or religiously unaffiliated continues to grow and now comprises almost 20% of the population, according to a study released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center. That is up sharply from 15% in 2007. And the study noted that "with few exceptions, though, the unaffiliated say they are not looking for a religion that would be right for them" and "overwhelmingly, they think that religious organizations are too concerned with money and power, too focused on rules and too involved in politics." At the same time, Pew found that as the ranks of unaffiliated grew, for the first time, fewer than half the population now describe themselves as Protestant.

By me  ----- Still, only 20% of the population? I guess there must be more, those who continue to go to churches for reasons other than religion and dare not speak their minds out.
