不要迷信一般的老外，他们的观点不一定正确。就这个问题来说，从发音难易度来讲，-es 在 -s 音后读 /-iz/ 要比读成 /-is/ 容易的多。可以读一读以下句子，慢慢加速:
The prices have dropped dramatically.

As a whole, below are the generally accepted rules regarding the plural pronunciation of -s or -es following which depends on the consonants before it:

1. Noun ending with an unvoiced consonant sound: /f/, /k/, /p/, /t/, the pronunciation of "s" is /s/.
2. Noun ending with a voiced consonant sound, /b/, /d/, /g/, /m/, /n/ etc, or with a vowel sound, /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/, the pronunciation of "s" is /z/.
3. If the noun ends with /s/, /z/, /sh/, /ch/, /zh/, the pronunciation of "s" or "-es" is /iz/. 

The same rule applies to third person verb forms, for example, He likes English. (likes -> -s). She loves English. (loves -> -z).
