To "show someone the ropes" means to teach someone the fundamental skills and procedures for a particular job or activity, especially when the person is new to it. The phrase originates from sailing, where experienced sailors would show new recruits how to handle the complex network of ropes on a ship.

Without exception, each of us had been a newcomer at times in our lives. When we were born, we were newcomers to this world; then the first days in kindergarten and schools, and then in work, and new work, and new new work 嘻嘻.  As a matter of fact, I just signed up for a watercolour class this coming Sunday, and it will be my first whole day art class.

So we all appreciated when others showed us the ropes on those occasions.  And in turn, we would do our part to show new people the ropes as well.  Being able to pay it forward is such a wonderful feeling and pleasure!

I would like to seize the opportunity to express my gratitude to my APAD co-hosts!  You invited me to join and showed me the ropes, told me "slow and steady wins the race", not to be confused by "razzle-dazzle" and to stay calm "through thick and thin".

Please allow me to present a rope related pic below, as a small token of appreciation for your kindness.

And, a Big Thanks to you All! 加油
