My daughters spend summery days running barefoot from the swing set to the garden to pick strawberries or fresh peas. The combination of bare feet and the little white pom-poms of clover flowers speckling the lawn in years past would almost certainly end in tears, as the flowers were normally abuzz with bumblebees and honeybees. But this year, something is noticeably different: No bees. This might be good for my daughters' feet, but for the world's food supply, not so good. We will soon learn how integral these pollinators are to our own survival. [Organic Gardening]
