英语的典型节奏是 duh da duh da duh da (iambic); 为了照顾这个节奏，下面的两个介词的重读就有微妙的变化（它们这儿都是次重读):

We GAve it to the mom.  -》 to 比 it 重读一点。
duh Da  duh da duh da

We're GIving it to Joe. -》 it 比 to 重读一点。
duh   Daduh  da  duh da
