I took just one course in 5 years

and that was still a course I took before. The whole time was teaching and working for my professor. It is hard to find someone having good hands on skills and strong theoretical basis in our area. So he really tried to keep me as long as possible. The basic research is weak in Europe. I met quite some people in the Germany Academia of Science. They don't make comparable effort as us. So you can imagine what is going on in France and England.
