Reagan committed the similar "crimes" in Iran Contra scandal. Reagan had the protection of his party. Reagan was unharmed. His Defense Secretary Weinberger escaped prosecution. The scapegoat was the little guy Oliver North who was convicted of some crime and he was eventually pardoned by the president.
