I asked an accountant once about the possibility of the revoke of AMT. The answer is that, although congress talks about it every year, it is very unlikely that AMT will be entirely removed any time soon. AMT generates HUGE amount of revenue for the US treasury. No congress man knows what to do with the federal budget if this money disappears. There may be some small changes to AMT, but that's unlikely to be of much help for people with relatively high income.

BTW, if your AMT is due to state tax and you are thinking about something as dramatic as getting a divorce, maybe you can also consider moving to a state without state tax at all, like the state of Washington.
