H4/EAD question, please help!

I am in an H4 status. I have applied and started to use my EAD based on the 140/I485 receipt. Since we donot know if our I140 will be finally approved, I really want to keep my nonimmigrant status and want to file H4 extension for myself and my two kids. When I file H4 extension, there is a question “Have you been employed in US since your last entry?” If I say Yes, my application will be definitely denied, am I right? It is said that one will lose his nonimmigrant status once he uses his EAD. Is it true? If I say No, and INS finds I has used EAD, what are consequences? Will INS deny all applicants, or only deny my application and still grant my kinds’ application? Thank you for your advices.
