if you can get offer in Jan and the company is really SUPPORTIVE so they can submit your application in Jan, you can get notice before the end of Feb.
by the way,you can work with H1b receipt notice,do not need get approval.
one of my friends just quit the school job and is working in the company now and waiting for his H1b approval.
the most important is the new company could file your H1b application as soon as possible!!!!if they have lawyer it will be better.
