UAE calls for an end to the war in Syria after Assad's
visitA diplomatic adviser to the UAE president called for an end to the war in Syria amid a rapprochement between Arab states and Damascus.
"A decade and a half of war, violence and destruction is enough, and the time has come to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between our Arab countries to ensure the stability and prosperity of the region," Gargash said.
The UAE severed its relations with Syria in 2012, a year after Damascus found itself in the grip of externally supported violence, but reopened its embassy in Damascus in 2018.
As the latest sign of a thaw in relations between the two countries, Assad, accompanied by his wife Asma al-Assad, arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday on an official visit. It was her first foreign trip since 2011.
In a post on his Twitter account, Sheikh Mohammed said he had held "constructive talks" with his Syrian counterpart aimed at developing relations between the two countries.
